First-Pass Accuracy
Commercial vehicle financing for Indian truck owners has historically been plagued by paper-heavy onboarding, opaque eligibility checks, and multi-week approval cycles. BB Pro Finserv Phase 1 was initiated to transform this fragmented loan origination journey into a streamlined, high-yield digital platform.
The objective was twofold: build a guided mobile application flow within the existing BBpro app for field agents and customer service teams to assist truckers in real time, and engineer a high-density credit operations portal from the ground up for internal underwriting teams.
Strategic Problem & Scope
Truck drivers operating across India face distinct systemic barriers when applying for vehicle loans: inconsistent financial documentation, low digital literacy, and variable network connectivity on highway corridors. Traditional self-serve digital application flows fail because they assume structured bank statements and desktop access.
To bridge this gap, we defined an assisted-digital model. Field agents and customer service representatives guide truckers through the initial application on mobile devices, while a centralized credit operations team evaluates risk, verifies assets, and authorizes disbursals via a dedicated desktop portal.
As the sole product designer on this initiative, I collaborated with 2 Product Managers, Engineering Leads, Risk Officers, and Field Operations to architect both ends of this ecosystem.

Structural Constraints & Architectural Pivots
Designing across two drastically different user environments brought fundamental architectural friction. The field agent app needed to feel native to the existing BBpro ecosystem, while the credit portal demanded an entirely new interaction language tuned for operational speed.
Constraint 1: Adapting BBpro Mobile Frameworks
Because the mobile flow had to live inside the established BBpro app, I was bound to its navigation hierarchy, design tokens, and performance budgets. Field agents operate on low-cost Android hardware in outdoor environments. Placing complex multi-page financial inputs into a standard form model led to heavy field drop-offs during early testing.
The Pivot: We replaced long scrolling forms with a modular step-by-step wizard. The flow broke down data collection into progressive chunks: Vehicle Details → Personal KYC → Income Verification → Loan Structuring. Each step provided immediate validation, preventing data loss on unstable network connections.
Constraint 2: Building the Credit Ops Portal from Zero
Unlike the mobile app, the Credit Operations Portal had no legacy constraints. Underwriting teams process hundreds of loan applications daily, and their primary friction points were context-switching between PDF document viewers, manual data entry inputs, and fragmented decision buttons.
The Pivot: Instead of traditional tabbed modal designs, I engineered a split-screen inspection workspace. The left panel anchors the original scanned documents (RC cards, bank statements, tax filings) with pan/zoom controls. The right panel houses structured auto-parsed fields, eligibility scoring metrics, and decision actions.
Experience Deep Dive
1. Assisted Field Application (BBpro Mobile)
To minimize data entry errors by field agents sitting inside truck cabs, we introduced camera OCR capture for Registration Certificates (RC) and identity documents. Auto-filling 60% of required inputs reduced onboarding times significantly.
- Offline-First Caching: Applications save state locally at every step milestone.
- Visual Verification Badges: Clear status indicators show field agents exactly which documents pass quality checks before submission.
- Dynamic Eligibility Preview: Real-time loan amount estimate calculations help agents set accurate expectations with customers on the spot.

2. Credit Decisioning Workspace (Ops Desktop)
The credit portal prioritizes data density, scanning speed, and keyboard accessibility. Underwriters evaluate risk profiles based on vehicle age, mileage, route profitability, and credit bureau scores.
| Interface Surface | Core Focus | Design Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| Queue Management | SLA tracking & triage | Color-coded status tags, filterable by loan size and region. |
| Document Viewer | Authenticity verification | Dual-pane comparison with OCR highlight side-by-side. |
| Credit Matrix | Risk assessment | Tabular view of income vs. obligations with threshold indicators. |
| Disbursal Action | Audit & authorization | Multi-signature sign-off drawer with explicit condition logs. |

Design System & Component Rigor
To bridge the engineering handoff across two distinct platforms, I built a synchronized component inventory in Figma:
- Mobile Components (BBpro Extension): Extended existing mobile tokens with fintech-specific primitives—currency inputs, document upload states, and step-progress headers.
- Desktop System (Finserv Core): Created a zero-margin, high-density component set including expandable data tables, document viewer controls, and inline field editing states.
Business Impact & Outcomes
Phase 1 of BB Pro Finserv transformed commercial vehicle loan processing from an analog bottleneck into a high-efficiency digital channel.
- 90% Field Adoption: Onboarding field agents transitioned from legacy paper forms to the BBpro mobile flow within the first month of rollout.
- Faster Eligibility & Disbursal: The average credit evaluation window dropped significantly, accelerating capital disbursal turnaround times.
- Reduced Document Resubmissions: In-app image quality detection lowered illegible document rejects by over 40%, preventing back-and-forth friction between ops and field teams.
- Transparent Customer Communication: Real-time SMS and agent updates gave truckers clear visibility into their loan status at every stage.
By designing a guided mobile experience tailored to field reality alongside an efficient desktop portal built for underwriting speed, the platform successfully bridged on-ground customer access with central risk management.
